The esoteric art of the opening DJ

I recently read this great article on ResidentAdvisor. I think it's a perfect fit for what our blog is all about, so here it is:

The esoteric art of the opening DJ

No one seems to understand it. No one seems to respect it. And it might just be the most important part of the night. RA explains why the warm-up DJ deserves perhaps even more credit than the headliner.

There are many variables in producing a proper electronic music event. Some things are obvious: a proper space with quality sound and engaging visuals are part of the physics that create a comfortable environment for the crowd. If, for instance, the sound system isn't properly dialed in to the acoustics of the space, the performer, regardless of his or her talent, is going to sound like crap. The result is a lethargic dance floor and an angry performer who will not only expect to get paid but will never come back.

Do you remember the 21st night of September?

Is it Fall yet?? Well we're excited about the upcoming events in the months to come! First a quick recap on the last two. The Atlanta Underground part 2 party in Charlotte NC had an amazing turnout at the GastroLounge. Everyone there had a great time courtesy of Dt Productions & the Charlotte House Music Society, make sure to check out their future events!

In Atlanta it seems monsoon season is upon us, as torrential rainfall in the area has caused widespread panic and even cancelled school for Thursday. The TAMBOR party last Saturday night had a great turnout at the new FILTER Nightclub & Lounge. Louie "LOU" Gorbea had the crowd pumpin' in the main room alongside DJ BE and StanZeff, while ATL's own Illuminate (Chris Grass & Nabani Banks) kept is chill and funky in the lounge. I want to take this time to thank all of you who made it out in this weather to support us, all the DJ's and house music. With your support, we are able to provide you with these amazing events in a quality venue and showcase some wonderful talent. We've got some outstanding legendary DJ/producers lined up for the upcoming months with the next TAMBOR party scheduled for Saturday, October 17th, so get ready, it's gonna be a night to remember!

I'm looking forward to this week here in Miami with Mario and Jonny Mulattos. These guys are producing some incredible tracks and I'll get to hang out out at the studio this week for a "behind the scenes" look at where the magic happens. I'll be documenting the "magic" and do a little one-on-one interview video with each of them as they bring you up to speed on their productions and upcoming events. Here's a sneak peak a one of the new tracks:

just one day out of life...

Well if you've been reading the last few post you may have noticed a trend in my post titles. A great song and fitting to the post topic. So today, after we took a holiday, took some time to celebrate, we now are getting ready for something that happens just once in a lifetime, 09.09.09. We're extremely excited about this event being hosted by Miami Cultural Movement. Big things are coming from this organization, so keep an eye out Miami - it's time to do it right.

For the recap on the Monoblock party @ the Electric Pickle with Mario Maroto closing down the packed house at 5am, check out the photos: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dynamitegroup/sets and videos here: http://www.youtube.com/user/mariomarotovlog

Still working on finalizing a chartity event in Atlanta for late this month. I got everything ready to go just waiting on one crucial piece. Hopefully we'll hear back later today. The TAMBOR party is up and coming September 19th at the new venue, FILTER with house legend Louie "LOU" Gorbea. Truly a night of house music to remember! http://podomatic.com/profile/louielougorbea

FILTER, is a new night club and lounge located in burgeoning historic downtown Atlanta. FILTER's goal is to innovate, rethink and evolve the Atlanta nightlife scene by offering the very best in cutting edge music pumped through an all-new, state of the art NEXO Sound System, in a breathtakingly beautiful space.

if we took a holiday...

I had a great meeting last night with Lorenzo in Miami over some Cuban food. As we move forward with establishing DEG Miami, L.Diddy as he is known, will be an intricate part of the office and a key to our success. I'm glad to have him on board.

Preparing for the weekend started as early as Monday this week with an event last night in Atlanta and various events thru the weekend in both cities, we had to prep early. Besides promoting the events, we have some press releases do finish up and send out, emails and bookings to follow up on. Also on the agenda, as always, is updating our social networking sites with event info, upload new flyer's, sending invites, etc. too many items to list here.

It's seems like I'm always working on one aspect of the company operation or another but I do take some time out for some - me time. I have full confidence in my amazing team and that is hard to find. And so with that, I can take a break once in a while and the show will go on. I'm going to celebrate with Mario tonight @ the Electric Pickle for his Birthday. The celebration of Labour Day has its origins in the Eight-hour day movement, which advocated eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation, and eight hours for rest. I may take a little bit more for rest, have a great weekend!

MARIO MAROTO @ SPACE MIAMI

What an amazing night! I met up with Mario earlier at the beach and we started the night off with a champagne toast. The pre-party gathering of friends, calls, texts and facebook messages from all over sending well-wishes. Arriving at Space was great - a huge crowd as always and on the entrance screens you could see the flyer with Mario's face on the huge screens...Awesome! Met up with some more people outside and then headed inside to the Techno Loft. The room was already packed and you could feel the enery and excitement rising. Mario had a phenomenal set and had the crowd in a frenzy and feeding off his energy. For all the photos please visit our flickr. We are currently editing some fantastic videos and will have those soon. Over all an amazing night for Mario and DEG!

**New track by Mario Maroto, "Booty Monsters" is available now on Beatport.
